    Hi Lagavulin16:

Just to add to duf666's post # 1626 about the large number of apps supported by by UCheck:

It also depends on your personal requirements for a software updater. I tested Patch My PC (see my 13-Oct-2023 comments in post # 428 of this topic) and found UCheck was much better for me because many of my third-party utilities are portable apps I run from a removable USB stick, and unlike Patch My PC, there are no restrictions on the location of the folder where you keep your portable apps. Aside from the fact that UCheck can be slow to find available updates for some of my apps (and that it throws the occasional false positive detection for BETA releases for my HWiNFO Portable app) I have no major complaints. A few minor quirks I found in UCheck were documented in my 09-Jan-2024 post # 2620424 in Ben Myer's Software updater or no software updater? That is the question in the AskWoody forum.

I also found QuickInstaller was a better choice for me than Patch My PC, although it supports fewer installed and portable apps than UCheck and is not available as a portable build.

What problems did you encounter when you tested UCheck?

I guess it happens more than just one time. This is a different program, but same problem.

Clicking on Open Website takes me to the download page for MS Edge.

Rescanning got rid of it again, but it is kind of confusing to be getting these incorrect updates listed.

There's some software that won't update their uninstall entry when updating. That's not good practice because this is the way it's shown in Windows settings as well...

    It's a personal choice I would say.

Did you notice a specific pattern for it to happen ? Like a certain sequence of actions ?

    upload_2025-2-27_21-53-27.png

If I check it's certificate I get this:

This problem appeared today while there was no problem few days ago.

    Hi Tigzy:

Further to Minimalist's post # 1631, I currently have no problems running UCheck Free Portable 64-bit v6.0.1.0 from my removable USB stick if I double-click UCheck_portable64.exe to launch the app.

However, if I right-click UCheck_portable64.exe and choose "Run as Administrator" (which is how I normally launch UCheck Portable) I see a similar User Account Control (UAC) error stating in part "This app has been blocked for your protection. An Administrator has blocked you from running this app. Publisher Unknown".

Unfortunately I can't seem to capture a screen shot of the UAC pop-up error with my Prt Sc (F10) key.

Yes, warning is from Windows itself and there is no way for me to run application.
When I tried to run it normal way, by double-clicking on it, I got that message.
Today I tried to run it with right-click option Run as Administrator (as Imacri suggested) and it would run for me. But only first time. Second time I tried to do the same it was blocked by UAC. Here is a screenshot.

Great. I have some feedback from various users saying they are not affected. I think maybe it's due to propagation time, but unsure. Please let me know if you become affected later.
We are expecting new certificate on Monday, hopefully we can release before ALL the users are affected.

I have a question for those who are NOT affected by this issue.
Did you leave your machine running for a long time ? It would make sense because signature check is done when the software starts.

I am using it on 2 PCs which are rebooted daily. On both PCs no problems. I am using the free portable version. Maybe no issues because I disabled UAC completely on both systems?

And UCheck is set to start with it...

What if you reboot today ? We found it takes 2 reboots to be affected. One for Windows to update revocation list. And another for UCheck to pick up the change.

After 2 more reboots still no problems on both PCs. Even when I enable UAC to highest settings no message. I am running on Windows 11 23H2 latest patch level. As Antivirus solution I am using ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

That's weird, hopefully it stays like that and we can update a good portion of users.

We plan to re-release today with new (fixed) certificate.
EDIT: IT looks like this new certificate is very much accepted by SmartScreen.

    This is online.
For those affected with the certificate issue, you will have to update manually.
For others who downgraded, the update should be automatic

In the future we will make sure we can control such scenario to avoid being stuck like this.

    Hi Tigzy:

Thanks, the problem is fixed for me. I downloaded a fresh copy of UCheck Free Portable 64-bit v6.1.0.0 (rel. 05-Mar-2025) and I am no longer seeing a User Account Control (UAC) error when I run UCheck_portable64.exe (and no false positive detection from my Microsoft Defender AV).
