Its 6 months on Tuta. I have a pop up set on my calendar alerting me every 4 months. It tells me to quickly log into my Tuta Accounts thereby resetting the "clock" on the login timetables. I do the same with my Protonmail stuff at the correct timetable for them. Seems silly but its easy and quick to do. I almost never need to follow the timers because I log in frequently but this allows me to sleep well at night with NO chance of losing on of my very private accounts. Sidenote: if you lose a free Tuta account you can get it back by turning it into a premium/paid account. Depends on how important the files and attachments are to your world!!
is there POP/IMAP support with tutanota free acc? I need some free email provider that supports those to say good bye to gmail once and for all. for important stuff I have other payed provider, but I need something free for non-important everyday stuff. thanks.
When I get a free email account, I expect such nonsense. When I get a paid account, I don't, but I do expect to get what I paid for....obviously both expectations were too high for Tutanota to meet. I had started with a free account, and converted to premium account when I saw the handholding clause, and yes, I checked for it in the paid account fine print, and there was no mention of it. I'd add that I had been using Tutanota for at least several years, and only logging in once or twice a year before this, so I assume the clause was extended to paid accounts sometime last year, as I got the boot around October (at least three months before the next payment was due). I've checked with Lavabit and Posteo, and neither have a handholding clause on their paid accounts. I would bet very few (if any) other email providers do! So good riddance to Tutanota!
Sorry that happened to you my friend! MyTuta account(s) contain some stuff I would be very unhappy to lose. Its backed up but kept all off premises making it a PAIN to recreate. So far, I submit to the handholding and simply get alerts to log in every few months.
