FastStone Capture for me is the best, it has the best editor and UI and has a much cheaper one-time fee not a subscription-based fee.
@Spartan Perhaps ShareX may currently be inarguably the best of the best screen savers available on the market. The upside is that it's a freebie and the downside is that it's aimed for the most part exclusively at power users. And make no mistake this app is worth the effort if you've got an untold number of hours to play with all of the functions this app offers. For my purposes ShareX was way overkill and switched to PicPick. Polished. Versatile in the abundance of functions. User friendly in spades. BTW, that "2TB SSD" you've got going on there in your profile must be nothing short of sweet. I bought a new Dell a couple of years ago with SSD (albeit at a fraction of the storage space) and wonder why vendors nowadays have the audacity to still market HDD.
Does the free version of PicPick have ads? It's not quite clear on their website. I hate yearly subscriptions for apps that I don't consider essential. And this is one such app.
No ads whatsoever. Softpedia also indicates a portable version is also available. Not sure if the portable version is available as a freebie or a trial version.[/QUOTE]
Thanks man, I did try ShareX while it is one of the better free screen capture utilities, I guess I am to oused and comfortable with the UI of FastStone Screen Capture. As for the SSD, that was a big surprise for me. See, when I was configuring my laptop, I just chose a 2TB SSD so it would be included in the warranty if anything happens in the future rather than me buying my own. I thought like all other manufacturers, Dell would include some no-name SSD but to my surprise that Samsung PM9A1 2TB SSD is the OEM version of the blazing fast 980 PRO See:
@Spartan It was that "2TB" and "SSD" in the same sentence that caught my attention. So far I'm coasting along just fine with a 500GB SSD with roughly 40% used disk space. "2TB" would be enough storage to last me for another lifetime. Color me green with envy. @Hadron Yes. In my case, and via Softpedia, the version I downloaded was free and void of pestilent ads. All by the way, @Spartan's FastStone Capture suggestion is no app to sneeze at either. Give them both a spin. Especially if you're VM, Shadow Defender, Sandboxie, or Deep Freeze oriented. And if you change your mind and don't want to go the download desktop route, then maybe check out the browser extension "Awesome Screenshot and Screen Recorder" available on the chrome web store. Silly name, sure. Then again, with 2M+ users, 24.5 thousand ratings @ 4.5 stars, last updated 3/7/2022... There's one 20+ minutes or so YouTube tutorial that lays it all out on the line why this browser extension has the peacock feathers to strut. It's all good.
Tried it on MacOS, it's the best for MacOS but my issue with it is it claims to be a one-time fee, yet every year there is an update (ie, SnagIt 2020, 2021, etc.) so it feels like a subscription based service It has a lot of good features but again, nothing comes close to FastStone Capture, try it, it has a trial period and if you do like it, it's a one time fee only and it can be installed on all your computers with 1 license.
Hello @Hadron At $62.99USD + tax for the first year followed by $12.60USD/Year + tax for renewal/maintenance/one upgrade makes Snagit 2022 a very expensive Windows®/Mac utility. It's no wonder that so many attempt to circumvent their licensing system. Maybe if TechSmith® had a graduated two or three level Snagit® featured product, appropriately less priced, they would attract more sales. My $0.02USD...
Hi 1PW. There are some big discounted coupon codes available for it that I've tested and works. Apart from the included one year maintenance, I wouldn't be looking to chase all the updates after that.
I am certainly happy they have discount coupon codes but I would not be surprised if TechSmith® forced the product to expire & fail if it was not under a support contract or forced upgrade... I sincerely apologize to all for my negative attitude.
Where did you find the discount codes as you said there were some big discounts available and we have Snagit 12 but it is very old and has issues especially when we try to print a captured item. Sometimes it says it can not see the printer but no other program does that. The printer is network connected and has its own IP! Thank you
I just went and tested it, and it's still applying the discount. Code: https://www.retailmenot.com/view/shop.techsmith.com?u=7WL6HSHKLNFBDO7NZTXWVHO574
Well, I guess it is still good today. Thank You. I will see if my wife wants it but $50 is still a lot!
