But what is the main purpose of this app? Is it to protect from drive by attacks, or also to protect from malicious apps that you install yourself? I know that you don´t feel like comparing it to other apps, but what kind of advantages does ReHIPS have compared to other HIPS on Win7/8?
I have posted a few tutorials on HIPS as kees1958, but was unable to get re-hips working. The log information provided to little information to get chromium running. I launched process monitor to allow some access to registry and file access, but only got application terminated messages. Adding rules is straightforward with re-hips, but a decent log or even better application rules builder like gswall had would be more helpfull.
@Windows_Security In your previous post, "Use Geswall on XP..." was rock-solid, sound advice. I would like to further that by instead suggesting that Defensewall HIPS/Firewall would be a better alternative in context for ALL current 32-bit users (XP and beyond!). Both applications offer the rare-these-days luxury of --download and forget-->> no logs required to monitor, no "trusted publisher's list" or any other such nonsense to tweak, very few updates in between to make the "darned" thing to work; absolutely no headaches, no hassles. I've used both programs with superb satisfaction/protection and submit that Defensewall has the edge because of its current development and stellar testing results by all professional organizations that care to dabble with testing such programs. P.S. Kinda wish AV-Comparatives would from time to time pick up programs like this and do a little "dabbling in the obscure." @Recrypt As you must know, when you release your non-beta version 1.2.0, follow the same organizations (such as MRG effitas, fwiw) that have tested SoftSphere and get your results out to us and the general public as soon as possible. Again, as you must know, thread after thread on this forum or any other forum will be massively and substantially benefited with test results, test results, test results ad nauseam. The facts will speak for themselves after all. From what little I've been able to glean from you published material, it looks as though you may be more or a wee bit less (?) on the same track as the two aforementioned apps, GW & DW. With the appropriate and reliable test results to back it up, there should always be room for debate and competition over the likes of MBAE, HMPA, and AG vs the legendary stalwart heroes Geswall and Defensewall. Let the show commence...
@ Rasheed187 "But what is the main purpose of this app" Seriously "I know that you don´t feel like comparing it to other apps, but what kind of advantages does ReHIPS have compared to other HIPS on Win7/8?" Hint answer to developers and considering the source: "Because my brownies are low-fat and organic." Based on former posts; either things are too complicated (spyshelter firewall), too ugly as in "ugly as hell" (nvt exe), don't make sense (way too many to illustrate), or are outright false allegations (appguard in general). Dear Rash... these guys aren't even out of beta yet. Seriously
My mother of 81 has a 100 years license, because of the excellent service provided by Ilya and easy of use of DW (she still uses xp pro)
@ ThreeCubed When I read your reply, I was like: seriously Who cares if they are still in beta, if a developer is serious about his product he will be able to answer this question easily.
@Rasheed187 I'll grant you this--- a lot of your posts have an almost "Rain Man" (the movie) aspect to them. Oh, let's ask a developer on the spot here at Wilders why his program is worth the investment. Let the developer put his program through professional testing organizations and let the chips fall as they may. In the mean time, I'm rather sure we can all sit back and let you entertain us on how ugly or complicated the GUI is and how unoriginal or how redundant this program is from any other HIPS without downloading it and giving it a test for yourself.
@ ThreeCubed Frankly I couldn´t care less what you or others think about my posts. Funny that you mentioned "Rain Man", because people who are bothered by my style of posting remind me a bit of that guy.
Version 1.20 is out now and they have a YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG0BvsYENoG8JH4KTk_-dfw
@ FleischmannTV What do you think about the app? I watched the video and I didn´t really get excited, but of course I will give it a try.
It was in many ways simliar to the old classic HIPS. Also to talks about using separate "desktops" but I wasn't able to figure that out. I really did immediately see any advantage over the Appguard, NVT ERP combo. Maybe down the road, but not now for me. Pete
@ Peter2150 From what I have read, it will not alert you about suspicious behavior, but instead it will try to run apps in a way that it can not hurt your system. But to me it looks like they are doing it in a more complex way (less user friendly at first sight), compared to apps like AG and SBIE.
Okay Rasheed, you've figured out more than I did. Any clues on how to make it work? It whooped me. Pete
@ Peter2150 No I did not even test it, but I was trying to say that I also do not see any advantages over apps like SBIE, and the fact that you could not make it work, is not a good sign.
Hello all. We now officially start a second part of private ReHIPS 2.1.0 beta testing. Just register here and get a full last version with 1 year use for free. Best regards, Recrypt Team!
Well I couldn't resist. This time I got it working, but...... It seems to be basically a sandboxing program. I got firefox running fine, although I couldn't figure out how to download and save a file outside. I also couldn't get PDF's open in Acrobat Pro Xi. Also I read the pdf describing the little desktop boxes, but it was very confusing in reality. Also something I found troubling, was their description of how rehips was better then other sandboxes, and it mentioned features they don't have. But these features, are also mostly already in Sandboxie. Will be interesting to follow this baby.
Some of us at MT are testing it on daily usage on real system, found some issues , we will adress our observations soon. Seems to be a mix vetween a hips and a sandbox. On C: you have a container folder like SBie. Each isolated apps is opened in those desktops, you have to click on the widget and dedicated box to use the isolated apps contained in them. This is the marketing part surely
How do you get something downloaded out of the container. I never did figure it out. Also not sure I saw any advantage over SBIE, but definite draw backs.
Nice to know that you're still developing this app. BTW, where can I find the PDF with the inner working of ReHIPS? I can't find it anymore. This doesn't sound too good.
I still haven't luck...easy installation and after it no way to run ReHIPS. There are the same warning in the system alert like in my previous post #18: - system can not verify digital signature of this file - that file perhaps is not properly verified or is corrupted... - or file is just malware from unknown source. Perhaps that is the end of my adventure with ReHIPS
