Outpost New Release version 2009

I've never used a firewall that has an expiry date, since I would never want to keep paying every year for a firewall. What happens if you let the subscription time out?

ie. No more intrusion detection signatures?
Does one get nagged every day?

 

The firewall will still be fully functional except you will no longer be entitled to further updates to it or the Anti-spyware definitions.

 

Drive sentry and outpost 2009 dont like each other at all on my vista system.Anyone else having problems?

Also, for you and others who might experience some system lag, go to: Settings-> Logs-> logging Level, and check the screen shot. I'm not sure what the defaults are for logging level, but I reduced mine as per the ss.

 

I'll have to reinstall it, thanks I did like what I saw of the firewall, it just wouldn't allow Kav to load...

 

I have a lifetime license so I decided to give it a try.

Worked good for a few hours and then I don't know what happened but I couldn't open anything without getting a windows that said, "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You might not have permission to access the item". Tried all the fixes I could find. Did a system restore and everything worked fine again. Tried reinstalling but got the same message again.

The computer is about six years old and I had just put SP3 on it a few hours before that. I thought the install went well. I had been running Outpost 4 prior to that. I did do a clean up of Outpost 4 as suggested in the Outpost forum.

Finally gave up and installed a different firewall and it works just fine. No problems. Shame because it looked promising.

 

Hi Shelty,

The problem may have been caused by a conflict between a "Host Protection" alert from Outpost and another process(es) on your system. If you install it again sometime later, see if you can access the Anti-Leak log under C:\Program files\Agnitum\Outpost Firewall Pro\Log and look for clues in there if it happens again, even if you have to boot to safe mode to access the log. Maybe try disabling Host protection altogether upon installing Outpost and see if the problem repeats.

 

Outpost 2009 and EQS 3.41 on XP also do not get on.

 

How is it on resource usage? How much RAM/CPU does it use under heavy P2P usage? Also, can you disable the HIPS module? (I see from one of the screenshots above that you can disable the logging). Thanks.

 

One thing that questions its protection is that it cannot detect the eicar.org test file.

It allows me to download and execute it while outpost security suite is on full and max protection.

 

With NOD32 and the compatibilty install I can see that OP:s realtime AS protection is disabled...
Rescources: on mine xp3 you have op_mon.exe at 2924K and acs.exe at 26800K...

i have op firewall no security suite buddy yes it didn't detect eicar.org test file but that because it only have antispyware not virus scanner can anyone reconfirm about it with outpost security suite as well please

 

I use with utorrent and its the best i have used.Other best was Sygate

 

Can anyone decipher the drivesentry log in outpost?.No network at all with it enabled.If either outpost or drive sentry is shutdown ,network is restored.

 

As a matter of fact I am using Sygate Pro now but I´ve been looking for a replacement that´s as good as Sygate is, light, unobtrusive and with no issues with P2P software, but I just can´t decide. I was thinking of trying this or FortKnox, which some people say is very similar to Sygate. I use Bitcomet, eMule and Limewire. Any known issues with either of them? Also, I have NOD32 v3, but only as an on demand scanner.

 

Can't reinstall. It only gets so far and then the computer reboots. Can't open anything without getting the message. Back to system restore and all is well again. Don't have that much time to mess with it again right now.

I have no idea what happened or changed to cause the problem. Not sure if it was related to installing SP3 or not. That's the only thing I changed before installing OP.

Another firewall is running fine.

 

I'm running KAV 8.0.0.357 too with OSS 2009. Facing some intermittent network connection drops due some incompatibility. Problem was discussed at http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=72933&st=0. Thought u guys might wanna know.

Running 2009 version for the last day or so, much stable than 2008.

My set up are : Windows xp sp3, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i, shadow defender, norton antibot, Threatfire, SAS pro, Sanboxie.

No problems, except OPutpost disables its AS realtime automatically; and I need to turn off Web control in order to use web tv.

 

I had problems with all the versions of KAV 7 with Outpost 2008. The latest version (Outpost 2009) and KAV 8 seem to work the best. The only problem I have is running the upload/download speed test on WOW (hangs) and uploading photos to my PBase gallery. Anyhow at least for me this is the best combo of KAV/Outpost since KAV 6. Hopefully one day they will work out the compatibility issues.

 

You are right. The suite has the AV which does detect the eicar file. The firewall with only antispyware, of course, can't detect this. Here's a screenshot of the suite stopping the download.

 

I'm running this version along with KAV 2009.

I have only one problem with the ad blocker. I have selected to replace the ad with a transparent image. Now i only get a pic just as the image could not be found so i thing transparent.gif is not included in the installation folder? BUG?

BUT...
What I am really concern about is the PerfUDP and PerfTCP performance..
Which I feel is one of the most impt part of Firewall leh..

Output seems to score quite low in it..
