New version 4.6.4 released on 12 Jan 2024. (tells the internal updater)

    Remarks:

    1.
Alas, we have the same old issue: the version number is not changed. When will they ever learn it?

    2.
At first sight I don't see any new bug fixes or new features mentioned in the changelog. Maybe it is just me...

    - The main set up file ("oeclassic.exe") was 1 kb smaller than the previous one.
    - Was a (minor ?) bug fixed in the program code ? Was this a fix of a (minor ?) bug fix ? Because this has happened in the past multiple times. Then there were new versions released to fix one or more small issues / bugs. No, no details.
    - I assume that one has to look for small changes in the behaviour of the program to be able to find out what has changed. That's as far as I am willing / going to speculate.

    Thanks @Willy2.
I guess we have to wait until more info is going to be released. (but imho there is reason to have a changelog).

    - In the latest OEC v4.6.4 version I already see some small improvements of the behaviour of the GUI. These improvements were made in response to feedback (from - among others - me) to the developers of the program. It improves the behaviour of the program when the user opens new windows using the tool buttons at the top of the main window. The way of opening these windows has been improved in the previous 2 versions and has now been improved even more.
    - There have been multiple updates without changes in the version numbers and changes in the "Readme.txt" file. In each of those updates there were only small changes / bug fixes made. I know because I reported a few of those small / minor bugs in the past. No, no details.

Did I fall for the blurb in that this software is better than the original OE. Not for me it isn't.
Upgraded to Pro V4.7 and getting error message at start plus I cannot for the life of me get message rules to function which was soooo easy on pre2010 OE

Update: Zvonko Tesic has reported back confirming they are aware and its to be fixed...when though judging by old previous issues that have yet to be fixed. It's strange the error has only been reported here by me.

    - Every now and then I get such "Access violation" errors as well. The problem is that there is no clear pattern of when these errors show up. Although they mostly show up when I close the program. Don't know what to make of it.
    - i also know that the developers are "very busy" for implementing one or more features in the program code requested by "paid for" (corporate ? ? ) customers. I frankly can't wait to see what these changes are going to be. But I have to be patient to see how events will unfold and assume that other changes / bugfixes will have to wait.

    - People, who use OEC, should un-check the option called "Minimize to system tray". As a result of checking that option OEC will regularly start to show "irregular behaviour" which then requires a restart of the program. The bug is known to the developers but fixing this bug is not the most pressing issue for the developers right now. Hence this one "work around".

    - I want to provide a little more info about the improvement/upgrade the developers are busy implementing. In the future the program will offer a larger "integration" with some services provided by GOOGLE.

    - The PRO version allows the user to use more than one identity.
    - The Free version inserts an advertisement into the emails one writes. It's to encourage to buy the PRO version.
    - You can always ask the developers if there are more differecens.

Thanks. I think all differences should be clear and visible in their website. It's not practical asking the developers.

A quick notification for users of Cox with the email address ending in @Cox.net: (source: OEC's Facebook page)

Cox.net is switching to "Yahoo" email type (which is OAUTH2). OE Classic already supports this type of email address so the switch should be relatively easy.

Once the switch happens, all you need to do is to create a new email account in OE Classic by running the Account Wizard (main menu » Tools » Accounts » Add) and choose the "Yahoo" type from the Account Wizard account types. Then OE Classic will open your default web browser for sign in to your email account and approve to use OE Classic to access your email, just like for any other Yahoo email address. Once you approve the access, you can return back to OE Classic window, click "Finish" button to add the account, and you can use your email account.
It is important to use 4.7.0 or newer version when adding Yahoo or AOL addresses, so please update to 4.7.0 first, if you haven't done so already.
You can update as usual using the built-in updater (main menu » Help » Check for updates) or from our "User" web page - https://www.oeclassic.com/user

    - I tried to use GOOGLE Contacts in OEC but to no avail. I'll have to wait for the next BETA version of OEC PRO.
    - What is the experience of other OEC users ?

The information provided below was taken from OEC's Facebook page. It gives more information on how to use GOOGLE Contacts in OEC.
[2024-03-25] Added support for Google Contacts with Sync/Add/Edit/Delete functionality in the Address Book

If you are using Gmail, GoogleMail, or Google Workspace (essentially Gmail with a custom domain), you can now directly sync your contacts from "Google Contacts" (avoiding the need to export or import). In addition to synchronizing contacts, Google Workspace users can also synchronize their directory contacts as well (this feature is not available to regular Gmail users). Directory contacts are read-only in Google Contacts, so they are shown in OE Classic with a lock icon.
In order to use this feature, first of all, please make sure you have added the "Google" account type in the "Account Wizard" because only that type of accounts can display Google Contacts in OE Classic’s Address Book. This feature will not work with the standard "Email" type of accounts (for example, if you are using an app password).
Having done that, open the "Address Book" in OE Classic and as soon as you do that, you will notice one or more new folders with the cloud icon, named after the appropriate "Google" account name. These are your cloud contact folders. To synchronize your contacts, right-click on the name of the cloud contact folder and choose the "Sync Contacts" option from the popup menu, and the available contacts in Google Contacts will be synced to OE Classic’s Address Book.
To create a cloud contact directly in OE Classic, select the cloud folder first and then click the "New" button. A contact editor will appear and you can type in the necessary details. After clicking the "Add Contact" button, the contact will be added both to the OE Classic Address Book and online to Google Contacts.
To edit a contact directly from OE Classic, double-click it as usual and edit the desired fields. After clicking the "Save" button, the contact will be updated both in Google Contacts and in OE Classic.
The same applies for deleting contacts - when you delete it from OE Classic, it will be moved to the Google Contacts "Trash" folder. Items in the "Trash" are not visible in OE Classic, and can be accessed or recovered only using Google Contacts.
If you make changes to contacts directly in Google Contacts (or in another copy of OE Classic), simply right-click again over the appropriate cloud contacts folder and choose "Sync Contacts" again to update the contact list.

For a demo, please watch the provided video below.
