I decided to give Slimjet's built-in ad blocker a trial. So I turned it on, then disabled the Chrome extensions I was using for that purpose. So far, Slimjet's ad blocker is doing a great job. It is nicely configurable. I like it!
I use the built-in blocker too, having also added Fanboy's Enhanced Tracking List. The only extension I use on Slimjet is Tampermonkey with a few scripts to make it easier to view photos on sites like Flickr or Instagram.
I haven't tried SlimJet in forever. Last I recall it was a shell over IE. LOL I know I know. I now know it's based on Chromium. As a secondary browser I am using Vivaldi installed also based on Chromium. Anybody have experience with both? And what would you say are SlimJet's advantages over Vivaldi? Is it safe to have them installed side by side? Both being based on Chromium & maybe sharing the same install paths. System is W7P64. Or should I just try SlimJet Portable? Thank you for input.
I have never used the Vivaldi browser (but I do like his music -- especially "The Four Seasons"). However, I know that Vivaldi is much more configurable than Slimjet, and also has a lot of eye candy that many users seem to enjoy. Slimjet's GUI, on the other hand, is fairly utilitarian. It's greatest advantages are: (A) It has the smallest RAM footprint of all the many browsers I have tried, and (B) It is waaaay faster than all the many browsers I have tried. It also has a powerful, configurable ad blocker built-in, as I mentioned in a previous post. I am glued to Slimjet mainly because it truly flies like a jet on my aging laptop. And, speaking of Slimjet's small RAM footprint, I have had as many as 22 tabs open at once and NO problem! It is quite safe. I always have at least 2 back-up browsers installed, for a total of 3 including Slimjet, my default browser. My 2 backups presently are Firefox & Brave (a chrome-clone).
When opening several sites at once with this browser it is always the last one that gets highlighted, not the first a.k.a the homesite. How can i change this to be the homesite
I decided to give this browser a try as i am finding Firefox to be rather slow on loading pages recently.I read with interest on their homepage they recommend the 32 bit version for P.C's running less that 8GB of RAM.As i only have 6GB on this laptop i followed their advice, but i am wondering if this is indeed true as most modern browsers out there only have the 64 bit versions available. Will there indeed be a seen improvement in performance between versions on P.C's with less the 8GB ?. So far i have seen a marked improvement in page load speed and overall the browser is snappy,i will continue to trial the browser for the time being and so far i am impressed. Concerning the built in ad blocker,is there any recommendations as to what to add that will improve upon what is already included,i want to give this a trial rather than add UBlock at this time.
I was testing it too for a while, althought it seemed to be faster than FF on my old laptop the browser is too far behind on Chromium updates for me to keep using.
