Seems like quality might not be too bad if these are any indication... https://malwaretips.com/threads/avira-antivirus-pro-2022.111863/ https://malwaretips.com/threads/avira-free-security-2021.111290/ Comment #15 in the Avira Free thread has a link for an alternate offline installer with extras deactivated in case others are interested
Its right here written on saturday ! : https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/avira.345492/page-235#post-3062374
It's crazy, it seems like they want MS Defender to become even more succesful, they should be ashamed of themselves for adding crap like crypto miners!
I still believe they (WD competitors) are selling our data as well. If you have a browser extension- they know. So logically, if they offer a free version and there are no free lunches, they likely are making revenue another way.
Yes exactly, just look at what Avast did, it monitored all sites that you visited. I don't trust third party AV's anymore.
I am using a freeware version of Avira Antivir v15 on an offline computer. And sometimes I download the latest virusdefinitions files and use 'manual update' for the offline computer. But those virus definition files in the manual updates are nvdf and not xvdf. When I fresh install v15 I get virus definition file 8.12.77.108 and later after the manual update I get 7.19.14.64. This seems like a downgrade but I think the 8.12 is for xvdf and the 7.19 is for nvdf. The search engine was a higher version after manual update. My question is: The virus definition file has a lower update number after the manual update! Does nvdf really work in versions 15?
"July 2014 : Faster virus protection – nVDF becomes xVDF · Faster loading time for virus scans" -------------- "Application scope of Virus library versions: iVDF – can be only used to Version 8 or lower nVDF – can be only used to Version 9~14 xVDF – can be only used to Version 14 or higher" ------------------ ------------------ Avira VDF Update https://www.avira.com/en/support-vdf-update-info ------------------ PDF, page 10= https://www.webassetscdn.com/avira/prod/assets/www/_pim/pdf/howto_avira-fusebundle-generator_en.pdf Please note the following: https://support.avira.com/hc/en-us/...-Download-vdf-fusebundle-zip-no-longer-works- https://support.avira.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360006930357-Manual-update-for-Antivirus-
"nVDF – can be only used to Version 9~14" I don't know where you found that information but the nVDF download works and it installs. But that would mean that v15 installs the nVDF's but can't use nVDF and that offline manual updates are not possible anymore. And it doesn't update online also.

Whoever owns the program now (Avira as I understood from this thread), they would better upgrade that openssl library. 1.1.1n fixes a high security issue (and in the meanwhile there is 1.1.1o ) See https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/more-openssl-security-fixes.366904/page-4#post-3073533
Avira doesn't answer the following question, maybe somebody here does know the answer. Somewhere on the internet it says: "nVDF – can be only used to Version 9~14"! But that information cannot be found on the Avira website. So I tried downloading free Antivirus v12, v13, v14, but they don't have a valid license key and so the manual updates don't work. There are only valid license keys for v15 and those manual updates are being delivered and when I install them, they seem to work very good in v15.0.17.273. My question is: The virus definition files seem to work but have a lower update number after doing the manual update then the normal update! I know that it is not supported anymore, but nVDF is still being delivered on various websites, so the question is: Does nVDF really work in version v15.0.17.273 or does it only look like it works?
Seems Avira is been updated and they finaly got rid of Lukefilewalker also introducing Behaviour blocker sentry (from Bullgard) https://malwaretips.com/threads/finally-the-next-generation-of-avira-is-available.114121/
Even in the country of origin, the interest on Avira is fading. There aren't many users anymore, that prefer Avira over MS-Defender. Why is Avira still popular in this forum?
