Keeping your Internets safe and pristine. Here's a review of UBlock Origin (UBO) Lite content blocker extension for Firefox and Chromium-based browsers, designed to be compliant with the new Manifext V3 API that could potentially limit adblocking once enforced, covering installation, filtering modes, filter lists, performance, responsiveness, effectiveness, everyday usage, and more. Have fun.

Yes,I am using uBlock Origin Lite in Firefox as the only extension because it is faster than Ublock Origin.
Too bad the extension icon can't show the number of blocked requests.

Is this by the makers of UBO?

Thanks, but I'll just keep using the superior normal version for as long as possible.
    Also, I don't notice any slowdown. :)

I'm a bit surprised that you are so positive about it. To me uBlock Lite simply isn't good enough. You can't control scripts via the matrix and it has no element picker, so it's pretty much useless to me in its current state.

    Found one site, https://www.mustijamirri.fi/vinkit-ja-artikkelit/kissan-sisasiisteys
Ubo lite in optimal mode and with i still care about cookies fails miserably about that site cookie notice.
Ok, tried Privacy Badger..no go...still the cookie popup.
PopupOFF managed to get grid of that...ive seen some more sites are using this anti-cookie-adblock method...

I replaced in Edge uBlock Origin with uBlock Origin Lite.
    Optimal default filtering.
This is my choice of filter lists:

I also modified the filter lists used at the DNS level.
I want to check the behavior of the extension.
At the moment in only one website I frequent I had to move the slider to full filtering.

Can PopupOFF be used with UBOLite & Privacy Badger?

I still use the regular one ORIGIN on Windows 8.1. Works fine. The creator designed it himself.

I did a test in "The Times" website.

Firefox + uBlock Origin - Hard Mode:

    Edge + uBlock Origin Lite

It seems to me that uBlock Origin Lite passes the test brilliantly.
Never mind if in some websites you have to accept (but there is also an option to reject cookies) even in uBlock origin there are some websites hostile to the pop-up about cookies.

In my opinion uBlock Origin Lite does not work as well in Firefox as it does in Chromium-based browsers.
After some experimentation I came to this conclusion.

With Firefox it is better to use uBlock Origin.

this is same as firefox do not allow to filter several mozilla pages, first to name addons store. this is for security reason and chrome does same which is not new. i dont know for edge+adguard_mv3+ms-store, less used. i dont consider this as a real issue.

I have added to the filter list above
    • Dan Pollock's hosts File.

Why? It only adds one rule:

Yes only 1 compressed rule that corresponds to 11688 network filters.
So you get a lot with very little.
Moreover, the list was recently updated a few days ago.
I want to check how it performs.

But the most important change is the combination of uBlock Origin Lite + NextDNS.
    Read here:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ControlD/comments/13vvzfn/hagezis_lists_dns_blocking_analysis/?rdt=48024

    https://github.com/yokoffing/NextDNS-Config

I replaced "OISD" with "HageZi Multi NORMAL".

I need to increase the ads/trackers blocking capability of uBlock Origin Lite if I want to achieve similar performance compared to the previous extension uBlock Origin - Hard Mode with TLD's.

Some things have changed since this very informative post was made. OISD is not included in Hagezi anymore. But Hagezi aka Gerd himself recommends adding OISD for more malware & phishing related blocking even if you're using something like Hagezi Multi Pro++. I have been using AdGuard DNS, Hagezi Multi Pro++ and OISD Big for a long time. AdGuard is also included in Hagezi lists but AdGuard is updated more frequently and I have seen it blocking some sites using regx rules (malicious & phishing mostly) unlike typical dns based rules.
These dns filters are even more necessary with MV3 adblockers.

    OK,thanks for the info.
    I will add OISD again.
But I want to stay with filter lists that are not too prone to FP.

When (if) available, I prefer to add Kees1958's hosts, if I understand his blocking logic.

How are you using these lists? In a DNS server, Adguard app, etc.?

    @SeriousHoax

I did a test with Mikynov's "addendum_to_Edge_Firefox_build_in.hosts" and many websites in list are blocked by HaGeZi MULTI NORMAL and PRO.
So for only + 16501 rules I decided to try PRO list.

When "World most used advertising and tracking networks.hosts" becomes available I will do some tests to see how many websites will be blocked by HaGeZi's list.
