I just switched to Kerio from the new Sygate.I had a minor "glitch" with CPU usage.I notified Sygate, that's the least I can do.I was curious about Kerio anyway and this is a good time to test drive it.I'm learning as I go and will test it at pcflank and hopefully "tweak" the settings. That post regarding rules was a major help.I know "zilch" about rules -based firewalls and that post helped me understand how to set them.Anybody got any more advice or tips for a new Kerio user?
Hi TEster. Yeah, I use Kerio, but also know virtually zilch re rules. I read the rules postings which helped me also, plus Vampirefo helped in another forum for me. I do know one thing, You can't just "delete" some of the logs. Mine was getting full, so decided to "delete" some from the text logs in the folder, then it would not log anymore, had to uninstall/reinstall and set the bloody things up again. Now I only log specific things in the logging preferences.
Hey Tassie thanks for the tip about the logs.I did add 4 rules from some research here and on a few other web sites.I was concerned about NetBIOS ports.I'm finding that setting rules isn't as difficult as I thought. Thanks to some experience playing with TDS-3 I know a bit about ports. That helps.I am impressed with how little resources this firewall uses!!!I tested Kerio at pcflank and got identical results to when I used Sygate.I'm going to do a few more tests but I think I have Kerio set up securely.
Hi, I mostly post in another forum, but this thread should help with setting up Kerio with the basics. http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,2896630~root=kerio~mode=flat I hope that helps
