How would I go about securing Office (not necessarily MS Office)? I usually secure everything that accesses the internet (or can access the internet) inside a Sandboxie sandbox. But I cannot correctly run MS Office or Ashampoo Office files when sandboxed; when I try to open office files the actual file does not open when forced to sandbox. So, how else can I secure and mitigate "office" if I cannot force it into a sandbox?
Secure from what? This sounds to me like a bit of excessive paranoia. Without knowing what version of Office, there is little advice to offer. Office 365, for example relies on the Internet. But will it infect you? No. Will Office (and version) send your real name, bank account numbers, passwords out to bad guys? No. If you want to prevent any access, disconnect from the internet.
Office files create a shadow file while editing, sometimes within the folder, sometimes in temp, I guess you would need to copy it into sandbox. Not sure if it would help though, but it is worth a try.
@n8chavez @DavidXanatos released MajorPrivacy to precisely achieve privacy and security. It seems to be adequate for apps which cannot somehow be sandboxed. I've tried to run MS Office + Sbie in the past. It runs and I can do basic things but it seems crippled if you want to use extended features/functions.
I mean to mitigate things that Cyberlock cannot do, such as reduce the threat of rogue vba files or macros. MS Office has vulnerabilities that others, such as Ashampoo office, don't have by virtue of its popularity. I want to minimize those possible threats.
