My ESET Smart Security is up for renewal very shortly and I'm wondering if anyone uses COMODO firewall and AV and if its a viable replacement? Obviously its good from a price point of view (as its free) but how good is the security?

comodo firewall is ment to be very good.
there antivirus product is still in beta and its not a good idea to trust it as your main AV.

Imo, comodo may have a stronger firewall then Eset but in terms of Antivirus, I believe comodo Is still In beta and has been for a while now.My opinion would be keep Eset smart security.

FW is a matter of taste, it is very possible you will like it. But do not take AV, it detects almost nothing.

Thanks guys. Just installed both to a VMWare to test. I believe v3 for the AV will be out very shortly to hopefully this will improve things. Looks like its back to ESET for now!

NOD's AV is a pissed-off Rottweiler. Comodo's AV is a cute little poodle.

Comodo's firewall was a wee bit too hyper for my taste I.E.:

"Oh my God! You moved the mouse! Is everything O.K.?!"

It would do things along those lines no matter how I adjusted it.

I do like "BOClean" though. It sits there quietly until called upon. :thumb:

I thought that about the FW but there appears to be a few more install options now from when I tested the beta. Is there any point having BOClean alongside ESET?

I installed the AV on my Daughter's computer over a year ago, and it's still in beta. I'm beginning to wonder if the AV is just a hobby for them.

It almost seems they have given up on it or forgotten about.I did give it a quick trial with my previous xp laptop and If I remember correctly it seemed to run good.

I'm sure it was a false positives plus it's an option to have the toolbar, an OPTION, this is the key word here you see.

I think the plan for Comodo is to make a suite. Antivirus + memory firewall will be eventually integrated into CFP.

I guess CFP will still exist as stand alone.

I still don´t understand why they implement AskS Bar, I already saw AskT, when will we see AskQ Bar? Anyone ever surfed with ASK? 99% are google junkies, nobody wants to change these habits... CastleCops arguments: open to debate, I argue: NO ADWARE, never!

I ran it with a trimmed down D+ together with free ThreatFire, when you are able to handle comodo, this combo works great.

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=207773

TF does an AV check after an intrusion and handles them in a intelligent way, so that is why those overlapping checks of D+ are unchecked. I dare to say that you can safely run TF as your AV substitute.

When you have vista use LUA in quiet mode with and you are covered (because IE runs in protected mode), when you are using XP add something like drop my rights to run your browser in limited user rights mode.

Hm, I don´t agree, Askbar has gained a reputation as Adware, I now saw that it can be unhooked during installation, so it is possible to prevent this installation, that´s okay so far. Toolbars are in most cases Adware and in most situations people don´t want additional bars. BTW someone should report a heavy bug in latest comodo 3.0.25, aborting taskeng => ws..cons.exe causes a full gui crash. (Vista 64)

I'm not familiar with "ESET" so wouldn't know about running it alongside
    with BOClean.

I'm just running: Sygate PFW, AVG Anti-virus, BOClean and I run
Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D every week or so and my system stays
    generally free of filth.;)

    I also use "SpywareBlaster".:thumb:

BOCLEAN is a waste of ressources, imho, never seen such a static anti-malware with so less options.
Nice choice, I don´t know why but sometimes I also think to step back to sygate. Sygate shows remote macs, things Comodo doesn´t own, IDS of Sygate still extremely cool. AVG8 has really comfortable gui.
