Hiya, am new here today, so I hope everyone is well!

I have CA Trust AV which expires on 1 September. The version I have is, I believe, 2007, and when I've clicked on "Renew", the page that comes up has a "Renew Now" of CA's 2008 version.

Am I right that if I purchase the 2008, it will over-ride the 2007 for a new one year licence. Or would I have to uninstall the 2007 version.

Thanks for any advice which will be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to be offtopic but why use CA when there are many free and better alternatives such as avg, avast, avira.

I am sure many others will also reccommend these freebies.

    Now ontopic :D.

If you do decide to buy the renewal than the 2008 version can replace the 2007 version so the 2007 version should be uninstalled first.

Thank you for your kind and prompt response!

I have toyed with the idea of Avira or Avast, so yours (or anyone else's) suggestion on either of those two would be appreciated!

I'm not a big fan of AVG from past use (even though I have AVG8 installed on my work computer!).

I understand that CA can be a bit of a nuisance in uninstalling?

    Thanks again!

With a license for CA etrust AV, you can upgrade to the latest version.
So right now you have a valid license , so you can upgrade CA AV 2008 automatically.
See here on how to do the same:
    http://home3.ca.com/Support/AppDocs/PA/Upgradeto_AntivirusR8.1.aspx?sc_lang=en-US

Now your second question, on what will happen on renew. It will just increase increase the end date for your license key. Hence you can continue to use the same key in CA 2007 or upgrade to CA 2008 and then CA 2009 when it released later this year.

Thanks for your kind response too. In the end, I've completely removed CA and gone over to NOD32!

There was something about CA in the past couple of months that I wasn't happy with, can't put my finger on it exactly, but it wasn't making me feel as confident with using it. A recent couple of FP's didn't help either!

But I thank you all again for your welcome and your advice.
