Looks like a real nice program, sort of like Sandboxie, but more advanced. I think this new piece of software from Zonelabs could have much potential.

 

Only for browsers and no other applications ?

 

Well looking at the purpose of this program, what would be the added benefit of sandboxing additional programs? I think Zonelabs made this software specifically for safe browsing, since thats the way the majority of the people get infected.

 

I think the strong point of this tool is that it works out of the box without any particular tweaking, it may be an effective solution for the large public that do not want to deal with any complicated settings and decision on pop-up windows.

On the other hand, users who likes to tweak and customise their security may not like a generally silent non/instrusive tool...

According ZoneAlarm $29.95 = €29.95, that doesn't feel right to me.

Unless this is something much more advanced compared to artificial dynamics, I don't really see why people who know sandboxie and artificial dynamics should buy this.

 

These tools operates in different way and with different features.

Sandboxes work generally more in 'passive' mode while ZAFF has a more proactive attitude combining sanboxing approach with spyware scanner, blacklist of spyware distribution sites, keylogging jamming, encryption of data, anti-phishing and website safety check. All of these with little if none interaction with the user.

ZAFF is strictly targeted to protect your browsing and not any other software.
Is this more advanced? Which is best? Don't know.... for sure they are different.

why would you buy this to encase just your web browser. Reminds me of Green Border. Safe Space is free and will protect your email to.

 

Why would you need to protect the e-mail with a sandbox?
Personally I don't even remember when was the last time I got malware from e-mails.
Or may be is just me?

Main infection vector nowaday is http... this is were more/different protection is needed while at the same time ensuring easy of use and un-intrusive/silent protection.

Of course, ZAFF is not a substitute of the standard AV/AS scanners or HIPS tools, but this is not the subject of the post i.e. different approaches to security ... traditional scanners, HIPS, sanboxes, imaging, frozen partition, etc.

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any word about GreenBorder since Google bought it. Web and Usenet searches bring up nothing.

It may interest folks to know that beta testing for ZA Force Field is finished. it is available now as trial-ware and for purchase at $29.95 US.

 

Well then so is http scanning. There have been viruses in the past that exploited mail clients. It would make sense to have outlook sandboxed.

 

Most related to http calling... so, covered by browser sandbox.
Anyway, any software can suffer from exploits.

With this principle, you should run everything sandboxed instead of a dedicated browser sandbox.
