I've just downloaded the new version 1.2.0.346 and it is working fine with my Vista 32 bit. I set the write cache to 1 GB (I have 2GB MAX), it seems faster, but it could be my perception of it. So far no problems. It is odd, it is nice to know the application hasn't been abandoned...

Recieved email from someone claiming to be Tony and he said that current version of SD does not yet support SSDs with TRIM so that is the problem with my Chrome resetting I would think. Just letting all know.

Do I need to uninstall older version before I install new version?

Just to clarify my email answer from tony again, he siad in part, "I am sorry but Shadow Defender can't work with SSD yet because of TRIM.". Note the word, "yet" so hopefully down the road TRIM will be mastered so will have no problems with SSDs.

Yet, the really strange thing about Tony's message is that up until v1.2.0.346 all prior SD versions BSOD'd my new notebook with mSSD (TRIM enabled). The current version is running on my notebook without any issues whatsoever. o_O

No; just be sure to install the new version over the older version (i.e., in same folder).

I purchased a license today for the new version and it is running well on my W7 x64 machine. I just stumbled upon this "As the world turns" soap opera thread, and it has been very entertaining...........Tony, is that you? Real? Fake? :argh:

I don't understand why all this discussion continues over and over
    .
The facts that all of us know is that SD development was stopped and Tony did not or could not answer to support mails and administrate his forum.
Maybe it was a family or a health problem that did not allow him to continue for the past 2 years.

But the program was not time-bomed or anything, so those who already had a license and a copy of the app could continue using it.

Now the development continues and it seems that is not a mal-behaved app.
It could be that either Tony has resolved his problems, or in the worst case scenario he or his family, took aboard another developer to continue the work or sold the program and the domain to him.

The users should only be happy (about the program) and continue using it since it stills respects the license agreement and continues to work.

As for YesShield it is a clone of SD but this does not mean its not legit. It seems more like a licensed/customized version of SD.

ps. I do hope that Tony is well.

I use Malware Bytes and Microsoft Security Essentials, if I would put these 2 programs in the exclusion list would they be able to update correctly?

I am asking this because all the windows registry writes gets redirected to the virtual space. I do not know if this effects the update process for both Malware Bytes and Microsoft Security Essentials.

To be a bit more clear I just want know if the updates work correctly for both programs after putting their paths in the exclusion lists.

I will be getting a refund for SD. After using it for 24hrs, I immediately noticed that my machine opened every single program or file with a lot of delay. I changed the settings so SD wouldn't start at boot, but even not running, my machine was effected. Task manager, pictures, Chrome, Windows update, you name it, it opened 5 seconds slower than without SD. I re-imaged to my clean state and all is normal again.

Did you allocate RAM-cache to SD? If so, how much did you allocate and how much total RAM is in your PC? Additional info about your PC could be useful...

I agree largely with everything you've said and hope that things are indeed just that but the problem is there's no way to verify any of this. There's a real lack of communication.

    Tony went MIA
    V1.1.0.331 with no change-log initially
    Phantom Armor on GOTD
    YesShield on giveaways
    Tony sudden re-appearance
    V1.1.0.331 with change-log
    V1.2.0.346 with major changes
    V1.2.0.346 with similarity to YesShield
YesShield still on giveaways (the dateline to download keep on extending on the homepage)

Too many changes spring up with little to no info on what's really happening in the background...

If it's someone else that has taken over, then why are he/she/they still replying emails under Tony's name (as seen in replies to sdmod emails)? If it's the real Tony, why isn't he acknowledging the status of YesShield as a licensed clone of SD?

I am not trying to spread false allegations or rumors. In fact, I am inclined to assume the better; more so seeing the updated versions "seem" to work better for some users here. It's good to see that email replies are given to sdmod and which according to sdmod "seems" like Tony himself BUT there are still question marks left unanswered...and which deserves to be imo. "Seems" just doesn't cut it..

Why does it matter if Tony is back or not? It doesn't. We still have a product that works damn well, and is better than anything else on the market, even before the recent upgrade. There has been no scans to suggest that it contains malware or anything harmful. Does it matter matter who's pulling the strings? Not to me. If it's Tony, great. If not, okay. Just as long as the marionette dances like it's supposed to.

The product should speak for itself. And I'm not sure why everyone thinnks they are entitled to any sort of explanation.

I also think there's a lot of melodrama about Tony's private existence.

I was wondering about the new feature namely the 'RAM used as Write Cache' for which I have assigned 1GB of my 2GB available. Does that mean that the whole shadow session will be retained by RAM memory? If that is so, does that mean that once I reboot my computer the session will disappear completely? I mean RAM memory doesn't leave any trace once it is gone, therefore that could be considered a very effective way to protect one's privacy, say from somebody who is snooping around. Am I right?

That's exactly my take on it. Everything is written to RAM, so it is cleared when you reboot, with no traces at all.

Almost, the stuff cached to RAM will disappear on re-boot but apps will still use the swap/page file which is not virtualised and once the RAM is used up SD will write the cache to disc.

As for whether you can get anything from the page file that is constantly re-writing itself or whether you can recover anything meaningful from the SD disc cache I'm not sure.

    Cheers

Then it is really a great improvement over the old version. It really makes it a very interesting proposition to have a lot RAM on a new computer.

Has Tony given an explanation for his extended disappearance? I think that he owes his customers a dept of gratitude for keeping his business alive all this time.

With SD it doesn't matter whether the cache/buffer is RAM or Disk - reboot and everything you did in Shadow Mode is gone!
