Hi @ Wilders I have an Epson SX400 Printer/Scanner on my Windows 10 Home Desktop. I have VMWare Pro Installed on Windows 10 with Linux Mint 24.04 running in the Virtual Machine. I want to install printing facilities in Linux Mint 24.04 (whilst it's running in the VM.) to support MailMerge which is working successfully. Questions 1) What is the easiest way to do this I have looked online and it looks horrendously complicated i.e. ipp, CUPS, Windows Samba. None of which mean anything to me Can anyone shed some daylight please. I am not Linux literate and by the look of things I am going to need a PHD in Printers. Thank you Terry
I do not own currently any printer. Back in the day it was as easy as 1. Install reasonably recent Linux distribution 2. Connect via usb cable. I never tried to access it from inside of VM, but I guess I would have to click some VM parameter to expose USB device to guest OS. 3. Wait a couple of seconds and open print dialog If it is network printer then it may be automatically discovered or you would have to find out IP address
The latest version of Linux Mint is Linux Mint 22. Can you please confirm the OS you are running. Easiest way, IMHO, is just to type -- neofetch -- into the terminal and that will give you all the info you need.
You may find a lot of help on Linux Mint forums. And here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=231
Hi All. Problem solved. "Since version 21, Linux Mint features driverless printing and scanning: - Printers and scanners are detected and added automatically. - Communication with the device is done via a standard protocol called IPP. - No drivers are needed.3 Jan 2023" It's just about looking at your VM menus in VMware Pro and switching one or two things on. Printing output to the Host, Win 10 in my case, is switched off. You have the opportunity to switch between USB 2.0 and 3.1 (in my case). For the record I am on a local printer not a network. Hope this helps anyone else in my position. Onwards to battle with getting the scanner working. Terry
Hi @Joxx You are quite correct. As an octogenarian I can be forgiven for the odd aberration? Any way thanks for the correction. For the record it is linuxmint-22-xfce-64bit Terry
