Thankyou Aldist, I will try that today :thumb:

Unfortunately I'm still getting the error:
"Only one install is allowed, please contact support"

I recall having to do this previously on more than one occasion but not again, so will continue using the last good bootable ISO....

What Windows releases have ever stopped disk imaging software from working?

I've seen people spout such hogwash for so many years and it's so obvious why they do that as the reality is once the developers of imaging software supported UEFI / GPT, people could happily still use older versions of disk imaging software like Reflect 7, True Image 2017, Symantec Ghost, Drive Snapshot, Image for Windows etc without any issues and update it if they like any new features but misleading people is still the main hustle like you'd think file systems / partition tables, VSS etc changes all of the time.

    @Fad

Run the Reflect cleaner, which was mostly used to reset trial countdowns but should help with your issues.

Most of the major ones, especially if you were using Acronis. Many low level disk utilities have the same problem. I don't blame the vendors.

If this happens on a regular basis, it sounds like you might not be deactivating the license from the previous PC? You can do that under the Help menu in Reflect. If you know you’ll be transferring a license to another PC, doing that will avoid issues when activating Reflect on the replacement. If your PC fails unexpectedly, then removing the license won’t be practical, in which case you’ll have to work with Support.

Windows 10 1903 broke Reflect V6 until Macrium issued an update to address it. The problem was first discovered in an Insider Preview release, and Macrium considered it a bug that Microsoft had introduced. But whatever the reason for the change, it persisted into the production release of Win10 1903. Here is the KB article.

Incidentally, the Reflect update that worked around the issue is still the last update that V6 received as of this writing, and Macrium issued it after V6 had passed its end-of-support date.

Reflect X is an annual plan, so we've created special deals to ensure you get the most out of it. These deals are designed to give you long-term value.
    -------------------------- Trade options ----------------------------
There are three different options for users of Macrium Reflect Home which may apply to you:
    1. Those who purchased on or after June 30th 2024 ( so on v8 )
    2. Those who purchased v8 before June 30th 2024
    3. Those who are on v6 or v7

With the three different options come different paths on how you can upgrade.

If you have purchased on or after June 30th 2024, you are eligible to trade in your perpetual keys and receive an annual plan key with the following.
Trade-in your one-time license key today and get 50% off RRP for life (you have to purchase the subscription at the point of trade-in)
    or
Trade-in your one-time license key today and get a 3-year plan (Subscription) for no extra charge
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have purchased before June 30th 2024, you are eligible to trade in your one-time license keys and receive an annual plan key with the following.
Trade-in your one-time license key today and get 50% off RRP for life (you have to purchase the subscription at the point of trade-in)
    or
Keep your one-time license key but purchase an additional license at 3 years for the price of 2 (with your one-time license remaining valid). We guarantee this offer will be better than this year's Black Friday offer.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have a V6 or V7 license key, then you are eligible to keep your one-time license key and get 3 years for the price of 2.

    ###

    Upgrade offer #1
    Home
Upgrade to Reflect X Annual Plan
Get 50% off the RRP on Annual Plan(s) for life when trading in a valid license(s)

    Upgrade offer #2
    Home
Upgrade to Reflect X Annual Plan
Get 33% off the RRP of a 3 Year Annual Plan - no license trade in required

    ### Q & A ###

Q1: What does option 1 mean?
A1: Option 1 is a 50% discount on every year's actual price until end of life.

Q2: What does option 2 mean?
A2: Option 2 is a 3-year deal where you purchase the software for 3 years and you will get 33% off the total price, so you will not pay yearly but every 3 years.

Q3: Is this a time-limited deal, or are we free to upgrade with this 50% off deal at any time including in a year or two?
A3: This is initially only available for 6 months however this may be subject to change.

Q4: RRP here refers to the annual cost, i.e. the initial upgrade cost will be 41.99/2 = 21 EUR, and 21 EUR again the next year etc. until the price is changed?
A4: Yes, this is correct. Example: If the price changes to 50 EUR, the renewal price will be 25 EUR.

Q5: I do not see this option on the website. Could you either send a link to this option or let people know when it will be available?
A5: To claim the upgrades, you can log into your Macrium Account and select the upgrades & renewals option. This will bring up your upgrade options. If you do not have an account then you can register for one here, just remember to use the same email as which the license keys are under.

Q6: For Reflect Home I can only see Annual Plan for 49,99 $ / year, no 3 or 5 Year Annual Plan offered.
A6: The home edition is only available in 1-year plans for new purchases at the moment, however, this may change in the future. The offers in my post are available for 6 months, however this also may change.

^ For people who bought a perpetual V8 license on or after June 30, 2024. the options are a bit different:
    • Upgrade to a 3-year Reflect X subscription for free, but trade in your V8 licenses.
    • Upgrade to a Reflect X subscription with 50% off for life
It doesn’t look like this scenario has an upgrade incentives that would allow keeping the V8 licenses.

Updated and built a new (Windows 10 PE) ISO image.

That ISO image is almost 75 MB larger than usual and fails to boot...

    (trying Windows RE instead)

If WinRE doesn’t resolve the issue, then “fails to boot” isn’t nearly specific enough to start troubleshooting underlying causes of boot problems. There are too many factors involved. But there are also different failure behaviors that can point to different underlying causes, so some details as to exactly what is or isn’t happening might be useful.

Out of curiosity, I tried version X and had a restore error. I've NEVER had a restore error with any other version. X is a big hell no from me!

To be clear, the 50% lifetime discount is 50% off the then-current RRP (regular retail price). It’s not 50% off today’s price forever. And “lifetime” in this context refers to the lifetime of your subscription, not a human lifetime, i.e. you have to keep the subscription active to keep the discount. Macrium has already said on their forum that if the subscription lapses, there will be a grace period during which it can be renewed without impact (as well as an email reminder about the renewal before the end date). But if the grace period passes without a renewal, then the 50% discount will no longer be available even if you start a new subscription later.

Reflect even failed to build the RE based ISO, complaining that there was not enough free space to do so.

That triggered me to set my TEMP/TMP drive to something else than my 512 MB RAM drive and build the PE based ISO again.

This new PE build was 10 MB larger than the previous build and does boot properly.

Apparently Reflect ran out free space before, but did not mention this…

    So: explanation?, recurring issue ??
Now that Macrium have woken up to themselves and redone offers, looking a better option now, but, not if there will be fails.

I restored an IFW image , back to a time prior to when Macrium X was installed. I installed Macrium X, and then added the boot menu. I created two full images; one using the default settings and one which auto-verified the image right after creation. Both were made without error. Then I rebooted into the Macrium X RE. Restoring both images failed, yet again.

I thought maybe I had done something wrong the first time. But I didn't. Macrium X just sucks. If I were you I would not use it. I've never had any issues with 8x, but X? Nope. I'd buy Terabyte's IFW and never look back. (It's much cheaper btw). I tried 2 different instances and both resulted in errors doing the most basic test.

In the words of Monty Python.....Run away, run away!

Stick with Reflect 8. There is nothing amazing to be gained from upgrading to Relfect X, except more money in the developers wallets with a subscription license model. While 8 works well, what is to be gained? Do you keep a stopwatch on backups?

The comments on the official YouTube video are pretty damning about the subscription license model.

Exactly and there isn't even anything new in Reflect X that is so amazing that you'll have people ditching their perpetual licenses to get tied into paying Macrium a yearly fee.

I installed X out of curiosity to see what its like and I had to disable internet access, so I could get past the screen that tries and forces you to register.

Edit - On a positive note. The old trial reset stuff still works, which is good if a user wants to evaluate the software for longer.

    What about this?
Does this exclude files from the backup being created?

Try every computer forum out there... many people complaining on Win10 and Win 11 forum, and any other forum you care to check. Basically I did the math and switched to another solution, I won't pay rent for my software or pay just to have it locked on restore only mode if I give up subscription.
