I hope it sticks around. A complete Chrome/Edge monopoly would really suck. Chrome only got the market share it has by sneaking it into 3rd party installers in the early days.
I used and liked Firefox when I ran Win 8.1. Since being forced to buy this new laptop with Win 11 Home, I've just used MS Edge. I never ran into any problems with sites opening while on Firefox. I used it for many years, as well as Netscape Navigator before them.
The 2.2% share is in the US and is measured by client side tracking, which a lot of Firefox users block. More reliable are the measurements from Cloudflare Radar, which doesn't use client side tracking:
do not trust stats you have not altered yourself ^^ when google is changing extensions model to mv3 some will think about a change to firefox. even Edge is affected from this change and fore sure will lose market share.
I prefer Firefox. I hope this does not happen. One government web site I need to access put this popup message up on first arrival on the page. I access a number of government run sites. This site is the only one that gives me this message. This message has been around for a long time, a few years in fact. I don't remember when I first got the message. They used to support IE 11.0 until recently. This site has an optional questionnaire on exit. I do it every time and add in to the comments to support Mozilla Firefox. I know it means nothing to them, but I still do it. Their FAQ page shows this.
Doesn't changing your UA prevent the popup? And do you already miss certain "features"? If so, just use a clean profile in Chrome or Edge just for those sites.
And by being default browser on Android. I only use Firefox (Focus on Android), but would switch to Vivaldi or Brave if I had to - not Edge, and definitely not Chrome. The story of the demise of FF has been around as long as the demise of the PC/laptop.
ungoogled-chromium could be a viable privacy-focused alternative as a direct replacement for Chromium. The project has been ongoing for a number of years now.
My healthcare portal won't let me access test results using Firefox. Their tech support people said to use Chrome.
link please. chrome is inserting own (lax) interpretations of code, and code which is not confirmed. the funny thing is that google points to the MDN (mozilla developer network) when explaining code.
Aside from the fact that its updates often arrive rather late (its newest version is 119.0.6045.199-1 while Chrome is at 120.0.60.99.62) which means that it doesn't contain the latest security fixes, the problem is the it is a Chromium/Chrome fork which consequently helps Google to determine more and more how the internet has to look like according to their views. A vanishing Firefox means that Google will be in control of the internet standards. That's hardly what anybody should hope for.
Huh? Mine is at 120.0.6099.71 (Ungoogled Chromium from Marmaduke) From https://chromium.woolyss.com/?all=1#linux-64-bit For Windows the same version. https://chromium.woolyss.com/?all=1#windows-64-bit That's true. I only use Chromium for some sites that don't behave well in Firefox.
Ah, okay. I had looked at the site mentioned in wat0014‘s Post. Nevertheless I remember that I‘ve seen in the past that they were frequently behind the newest Chromium version.
Nov 2023 Browser share... https://gs.statcounter.com/browser-market-share The worldwide market share for Firefox at 3.23% is about where it has been for ages. How well a browser does (in market share) going forward will be more aligned with how well it does on a specific platform. Legislation/regulation is also a major factor going forward (re:AI) .
Well I for one don't want to see Firefox go extinct, but if it does, then what other alternatives does one have other than Chrome or Chrome-based browsers? I mentioned ungoogled-chromium because it at least is stripped of Google web services, and v119.0.6045.199-1 is hardly that old. For Linux, at least, the Flatpak build was released November 30, which i have installed on MX-23.
Me neither. If it does happen, though, I bet FloorP will likewise go. What do you think? If it does become an all-chromium world, I'll stick with Brave. I've tried the other big ones and it's not happening.
As much as I hate to be a pessimist, I'm guessing Floorp, still currently my go-to browser, would follow suit, as well as probably other Mozilla forks
this! if firefox gets down any other fork will die - and also all related software such as thunderbird, betterbird. but mozilla is supporting windows 7 iot/embedded until 2024 with the esr and then it may die, but its plans are including 2025 so we will have another 2 years. its assets (all items) value is 1.2 billion dollars (EU: 1.2 mrd $) https://www.soeren-hentzschel.at/mozilla-umsatz/en/ so the given article(s) contain again a lot of nonsense.
Hmm, never thought of changing the UA for the site. Silly me. I will give it try. It's seems to be down right now. Might be under maintenance. I've setup User-Agent Switcher and Manager for the site and will check it later. So far everything I use the site for works. I am prepared to use Chromium if needed. Thanks.
