I have never used a firewall to block Firefox updates so I cannot say, but the policies.json method should prevent Firefox from checking for updates, or displaying any update related popups.

 

Just unchecking all the options under "Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Firefox Data Collection and Use" should opt you out of this new telemetry according to this article from Firefox.

You can then check whether telemetry is enabled or disabled by typing about:telemetry in the address bar.

 

@Rasheed187. The policies.json method works perfectly well. I have been using the policy ever since the option to prevent automatic updates was taken away by Mozilla. Just make sure to remember deleting the policy file before doing an update, and restoring it back from Recycle bin after the update is done. Also, is a good idea to keep a copy somewhere.

So far I haven't had any update alerts, but this doesn't explain why I got to see them eventhough Firefox didn't seem to connect to any Mozilla related hosts. Now that I think of it, perhaps I can block certain hosts again via SpyShelter Firewall and see if I can update Firefox. If not and I can still see the annoying update alert, then it might be some standard update alert that pops up for no good reason.

 

This basically means that Firefox acts like spyware! Very dangerous path that Mozilla is going.

I know what you mean, but Mozilla should stop with these shenanigans. There is no need for this stuff IMO. No browser that is serious about security/privacy should even have these features.

 

Sadly enough I still get those annoying update alerts. There doesn't seem to be a way to turn these off, Mozilla should be ashamed of themselves.

 

My Firefox update via Settings was not "smooth" on two Windows 11 computers.
After I've pushed, "Restart Firefox to Update," it had crashed.
I needed to click on the Firefox icon to start an update.
It has happened first time in my Firefox experience.

 

I had the same problem as zmechys and then some. I could only update by downloading update from their site.

 

I like this change in Firefox 127.0

 

Firefox's anti-tracking protection when compared at the same level compared to Edge breaks many more websites.

you should report this to bugzilla if you feel this is wrong. otherwise lose tracking protection for this site.

 

When I click on the link in my Firefox, it opens fine with the form displayed. I am using the "strict" option for the "Enhanced Tracking Protection" globally in my Firefox, but my Firefox version is older, 124.0.2.
