I said this from the beginning. Cloud services will be the same. Once everyone is there the price will go up. And up.

I wouldn't have a problem with higher prices if content was getting better, but it's actually getting worse. Lately I have been watching many of my favorite movies for free on YouTube. Netflix, Prime Video and HBO Max should be doing a better job, especially over here in Europe.

This is why I am buying DVDs while I can and a spare player before they quit selling them.

It won't belong before their exactly like cable, full ads, overpriced and crappy content. DVD's don't work for me as I mostly watch new content with some movies from the 30's-50's thrown in. Zero desire to watch 10 or 20 year old movies or series.

Most of the stuff I watch is from the '60s, '70s and '80s. Some recent stuff but I've never felt the need to watch the latest thing for the sake of it. It's hard to beat the '80s for movies.

My dvd collection keeps growing slowly thanks to a nearby second-hand store. I even still have VHS tapes hanging around for movies that I haven't yet replaced with dvds, though the quality is definitely declining...

I have netflix for convenience of streaming, but content has taken a nosedive in quality. I'm in the ad-free tier so once I finish what I want, I'll be punting it and not looking back as it's only getting worse.

I've bought a couple of season of shows form the Microsoft store because it was the only way I could watch them without subscribing to an ongoing service. I won't like it if they get pulled later but I won't be surprised either.

I refuse to rent and buy stuff from streaming services. I hate it that you have only 48 hours to watch content when renting, and by now it should be clear that you never actually own content when you buy it, since you can also not download it if I'm correct.

Interesting this thread showed up. Earlier today I was checking out streaming services to get an idea of what they offer and what they charge. It ended up turning into a hunting expedition without a lot of clear answers. It seems like they go out of their way to be confusing and make it difficult to know exactly what you're getting into. I started to smell a bait and switch so I bailed.
