MBAE Build 1.13.1.258, personal version for testing
that Arthi made available to me, solves all the problems that the 2 previous builds had if installed in Windows XP.
This software still fully supports all OS prior to Windows 10.

No change from the previous, v1.13.1.254 released on 18 Sep 2020, as per changes, then.

So, v1.13.1.257, must be [just] a revision. ;)

Per mood's post, MBAE was changed to protect against new exploit attack vectors. "New" means exploit vectors that have been newly manifested after issuance of 1.13.1.254. Unless a major revision is issued, MBAE's developers tend to use pretty much the same boilerplate to summarize differences from version to version & build to build. However, they do NOT issue unnecessary versions where there is "no change from the previous..." -- all updates to MBAE should be installed, otherwise the developer would not have issued them.

MBAE 1.13.1.257 starts very smoothly and reliably. The last version of MBAE that started reasonably well on my ancient Windows XP SP3 system was version 1.12.1.109. I can once again enjoy the latest protection from using MBAE. The old system even seems to run better. This improvement probably also benefits users running Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 on geriatric hardware and probably on recent hardware too..

It seems that MBAE devs have read my pleas for mitigating the startup problems in Windows XP and acted very effectively. As I said above, the benefits also apply to recent versions of Windows, enhancing yet further the gloss on an already brilliant product. Now that's what I call quality. :)

Am I to understand that I can now update XP-SP3 from MBAE 1.12.1.90 to 1.13.1.257, really?
It works great on Windows 7 and 10, but XP has been behind for a loooong time.

In Windows XP also using MBAE build 90 does not expose the PC to security problems.
Especially for browsers and email clients.

I understood that the latest MBAE is still designed to run on Windows XP as well as 7, 8.1 and 10. It works superbly on my AMD Athlon XP 3000+ powered Windows XP SP3 system. MBAE 1.13.1.257 starts beautifully and reliably, operates smoothly and unobtrusively and is designed to protect against the latest exploits. I cannot understand why folks are reluctant to use it.

I am puzzled at the implication that versions of MBAE later than 1.12.1.90 expose a Windows XP to security problems and shall continue to take the risk of using the latest MBAE. I am once again using automatic updating for MBAE in XP. MBAE protects older applications so my guess is that older OSes should also be OK.

The latest build 257 is designed to work with Windows XP.
Theoretically it shouldn't expose a Windows XP OS to security problems.
But often the theory is different from the practice.

For example, this latest build works poorly in OS W.XP which have less than 1 GB of RAM.
Saving the changes made in the apps placed under MBAE protection highlights a RAM error.

Obviously, if a PC is still equipped with Windows XP it will probably have a quantity of ram that is not in line with modern standards.
For this reason alone it can be said that there is no full compatibility in the Windows XP OS.

If the build is not fully compatible, could there be an unexpected event where the anti-exploit protection fails to function due to overlapping effects?
In the absence of accurate tests that the SoftHouse rightly no longer performs in OS no longer supported by Microsoft, no one can say for sure.

    :)

My Windows XP system has 3GB RAM. MBAE 1.13.1.257 works extremely well. However I take your point about the problems posed by old and limited hardware. I hazard a guess that MBAE has problems when its 'working set' is too small.

With MBAE build 257 you get the RAM error.
    Previous builds did not.

In Windows XP, MS Office Excel 2003 does not like MBAE 1.13.1.257. It refuses to execute. I reverted to MBAE 1.12.1.90.

I use v1.12.1.109. What issues did you have with 109? I'm not aware of any.

MBAE 1.12.1.90 starts more reliably than MBAE 1.12.1.109.

You who have a similar amount of RAM to modern standards could report the error in the MBAE forum.
If they have trouble fixing it, just write that there is no compatibility with Windows XP anymore.

I am quite happy with MBAE 1.12.1.90 on XP. I am puzzled because people say that XP is very vulnerable but I have yet to experience even a single malware event on this incarnation of XP which I installed in 2005. I would love to know why. I used PosReady2009 updates after April-2014 until Microsoft goofed in August 2018 when security updates would no longer install on systems with non-SSE2 processors (like my AMD XP 3000+ CPU). The strange thing was that Internet Explorer updates were unaffected.

Not all malware are going to announce that they have infected you like ransomware does. Sometimes it's better for them if the user believes everything is normal.

I'm getting false positives when trying to save word documents I have created myself with version 1.13.1.257. I've had 4 occurrences so far.

I'm using Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise on Windows 10 x64 Pro version 2004.

I will report it at Malwarebytes after I take a short nap so I can rest my mind before starting on some more work I have to do.

That's weird. For me, MBAE only keeps an eye on internet-facing apps, never word documents.
