I use Bitdefender Total, which has free VPN to 200mb/day. While still in the VPN I tried to use T-bird, to send an email. Fail secure connection could not be established. Was that the VPN or email fault (suddenlink.xxx)? Before closing Bitdefenders VPN, I ran Bleach Bit, it complained about network. I rebooted, VPN off, & email worked fine. Suddenlink's email has been very problematic, for long time. Also FF wants to provide VPN for $60 year, Bitdefender $40 year. With Bitdefender's VPN I notice no slowdown, on the net. Any reason for ordinary person to use VPN? Kinda seems not necessary
I would not ever not be behind a VPN. That is to say, I will always be using one. ALWAYS. It's just safer not having to worried about attacks, tracking, etc.. Also. Firefox VPN uses Mullvad, one of the most reputable and privacy-conscious VPNs there is. Bitdefender, who knows. Never trust a VPN when the VPN is not the primary business.
I wouldn't expect VPN services per se to interfere with HTTPS connections. However, it's possible that Bitdefender's VPN does some mix of packet inspection, protocol filtering, and URL blocking. And that might interfere with HTTPS connections etc. Many use VPNs to protect against local attacks while using WiFi hotspots. Stuff like snoopy hotspot providers, improperly secured hotspots that let users exploit each other, and malicious fake hotspots. Others use VPNs for privacy while torrenting, streaming media, using Tor, plotting global domination, etc. Some access Tor through VPN services so that entry guards don 't see their ISP-assigned IP address. That helps to protect against malicious entry guards and/or deanonimization of Tor circuits. If you 1) don't care about privacy, 2) trust your ISP, 3) only work at home, and 4) don't use WiFi, you likely don't need to use VPNs.
I did hear that VPN's can mess up streaming. Ok! The machines are at home & connected (including TV) via ethernet.. Bitdefender with 200mb free, would cover road trip. iPhones, iPads VPN's safe out in the world with no VPN?
No. They are not re-read my last post. 200 mb is nothing. Directly put, ditch bit defender and and get a better and more reputable VPN, or don't use one.

Using router VPN Mullvad or Express VPN, would I need to install (to use) software for TV & SiriusXM streamed over ethernet. Same question for iDevices, getting connection from VPN'd router? Is it really necessary for iDevices VPN? If so 1 of five devices router, iDevices install app. At home covered by router. On the road with iDevices use app??
OP, Independent of my thoughts about your VPN, 200 mb/day is crazy limited. It is rare that I don't pull at least 1 Gig through my tunnels every single day. Many, many days I pull multiple Gig through several different server configurations. On a 500 meg line 200 meg/day would last me only a few minutes when I am "going at it" (moving/downloading files) LOL!
Yes I understand 200mb/day is a teaser by BD, to purchase. It is fast, but email is not usable with it! I'll try ExpressVPN, if not happy Mulvad, payment seems awkward, or not necessary. Any other back up considerations, exclude post #7. Thanks Guys
