If I am just making exact clones of my computer from time to time( no incremental updates ) do I need the destination drive I'm cloning to to be larger than the source drive or can it be the same size?

    The Hammer,

The destination drive can be smaller, the same or larger than the source drive. It depends on the amount of data and the sectors in use spread in the source partitions.

If your original partition [ ] was....( * is sectors in use, - is free space)

    [---**----**--]

then the target partition to clone into can not be smaller than...

    [---**----**]

You can't do this unless you use compaction...

Ok. Thanks As I have a Mac I was thinking of trying SuperDuper which is free for use if you don't need the advanced features and just want to make clines from time to time.
