SD Maid shouldn't require root for that. There are other cleaners too which can scan for remains too.

I don't remember about needing root for SD. My phone is not rooted, but some of its features will function on my phone for free. Others require the paid version.

Hopefully others here can help you with that. I really wouldn't know as I don't use my phone for much more than calls and texting now.

SD Maid's CorpseFinder will find and delete those leftovers. SD Maid isn't very good as a junk cleaner anymore, as there are other apps which find more junk. But if you just want something to delete leftovers, SD Maid is excellent as it does not have any ads.

SD Maid is all you need to remove leftovers are uninstalling apps. You won't need to root your phone to use it.

If you want to clear other cached data, the best starting point is to go to Storage in your phone's settings, select Internal shared storage, select Cached data and, and then select OK to clear the cache.

It works as well as anything else for removing leftovers are uninstalling apps. However it's not very good at finding other junk files e.g. cache files for apps that are still installed.
