Top down shake ups every now and then isn’t the worst idea, those that were laid-off probably got too comfy, lets hope this kicks Mozilla's ass into gear a bit. But I'm not gonna lie, the future looks grim for them, with the new Edge that launched, which IMO they knocked it out of the park with, in a few years Mozilla will be lucky to have half of what they have now.

Yes, the layoffs are hard on those folks - I didn't mean to gloss over that. I was wondering if there was concern about other issues?

Other issues such as what? That FF might be on the verge of collapse? I hope not as I have been using FF for a long time. But if some unforeseen problem does arise in the future, there will be the new Edge to fall back on, for me anyway.

The new Edge is certainly going to make it harder for them. That is what I will use if Firefox goes under.

While I like the new Edge, I can't see myself ever using it as my primary browser. Just like Chrome itself, I can't configure it to open everything I enter in the address bar in a new tab, rather than the current tab. So, I'll stick with the Chromium based Cent. If not for that, I'd probably use it.

Without trying to sugarcoat things, the numbers aren't jaw dropping. Less than 10%, so that's not excessive. Mozilla is probably just trying to "streamline" operations, one of many a corporate buzzwords used when people are laid off. I work for a large company that laid off close to 30% of its workforce several years ago. That was scary. There were people affected by it reduced to tears , because they didn't know what they were going to do :(

This is the latest view from Mozilla about the future of the web. I must say that I agree with them, but they really should start to build a better browser!

What would a better Firefox look like?

Good question. I still like FF more than all other browsers I have seen so far.

It seems to me all the top tier browsers are very good now and they're all free. There's not much to compete on.

Agreed. The top browsers are pretty good and fast these days, but I still like FF best.

It would look more like Vivaldi. It was always my plan to switch back from Vivaldi to Firefox, but Vivaldi became better, while FF became worse. It's mostly about customization features, Vivaldi will let you control just about anything and has a way better bookmarks and history manager.
