It just seems like a waste of time and effort using ZenMate when it does not even work properly, and like Mirimir says its a web proxy at best "If it worked"
They ought to change the text on their website from 'tunneling your internet connection' to 'tunneling your browser traffic' but as an anonymous web proxy for Hulu and stuff, it works just fine.
Sometime ago I tried the addon, and you were right. Cloakfish website did reveal my IP adress even looking for IP adress on google revealed it. But I decided to try the addon again and it seems it works now.
Installed earlier today. Checked with whatismyip. Appears to be working No proxy. No idea how to know if data is encrypted. No idea why ZM only has 5 servers and no number of IP's posted anywhere afaik Could this be a SCAM ~ Data Mining through the front door. Comments? TIA
According to Cloakfish.com: Your IP is 5.152.205.245 , no proxy can be detected Your country is , (Unknown City) Your primary language is english It seems they can't detect whether Zenmate uses a proxy behavior or not. I'm curious, can someone that uses an actual proxy see if Cloakfish can detect it.
Nice addon but I think it makes no sense to pay for DSL 16000 and get 20 KB/sec download speed with ZenMate. Uninstalled ...
I don't mean to troll you guys here but, why don't you give up on this? Some VPN services are rather affordable and they usually work. ZenMate is just having too much risk of leaks. I don't know about Cloakfish, but whatismyip could detect it on some.
Guess it can't detect from me then. whatismyip: Your IP: 103.10.197.194 Proxy: No Proxy Detected City: hong kong
I just noticed that there's the Firefox port of this extension. Does it share the same problem with its Chrome version?
Zenmate Location: United Kingdom Cyberfox(with the Firefox add-on) In Cloakfish: Your IP is 77.245.70.37 , no proxy can be detected Your country is United Kingdom, (Unknown City) Your primary language is english Google Chrome(with Chrome add-on) In Cloakfish: Your IP is5.152.205.245(leaked ip=*insert your IP here* ), no proxy can be detected Your country is , (Unknown City) Your primary language is english It seems the Google Chrome does leak your IP, but the Firefox add-on doesn't leak it. At least it didn't leak it for me. Wonder if someone can do a more thorough testing.
I've only tested the Opera version. It doesn't leak my IP but it does leak my ISP's DNS server which gives away my geographical location.
I did. But I had it set to "Ask to activate" Tried again with Flash on "Always activate" and got this Your IP is 77.245.70.37 (leaked ip=*insert your IP here* ), no proxy can be detected Thanks for your suggestion in checking Flash.
I'm pretty sure that this is not exclusively caused by the Flash Player plugin, other plugins could also leak your banana out of the window.
Tried Flash both ways Always and Ask Same results from whatismyip So, how do we nail this culprit to the wall. Is it data mining or legit Also looking at OpenVPN Private Tunnel https://www.privatetunnel.com/index.php?referral=OPENVPN Like their data plan. But a block of non expiring data transfer. No monthly fees ~ Unlimited devices per account How do I tell if any of these outfits is on the up and up
ZenMate told me by email ZM cannot mask traffic while running Flash. Normal browser traffic Yes. Flash traffic No. Tried Private Tunnel ~ never could connect. Spawned 100 unknown devices under Network Adapters. Windows found new hardware and trying to find drivers. Could not cancel Windows dialog searching for drivers. Had to use revo and one by one uninstall unknown devices to stop Windows searching for driver for new found hardware. PITA I trusted Private Tunnel because of OpenVPN. Glad it's off my box. Still running ZenMate as it's free. But, need to find better VPN
Try VPNgate. http://www.vpngate.net/en/ It is good as a free VPN. It can use either its own Softether VPN client or OpenVPN. I like using the generic OpenVPN client. It is light. The install file is just a couple of mbs and it is light on the system once installed. The link on the main page of openvpn.net is for Private Tunnel. Here is where you download the open source OpenVPN client: https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html Once installed, all you have to do is place .ovpn files in the OpenVPN configuration directory. I currently use .ovpn files from Torguard which I pay for, Cyberghost for which I have a 6 month free subscription and VPNgate. The OpenVPN client installer should install just one virtual TAP adapter.
Yeah....PT sent me to the Community installer page....after I reported my mishap with the Client installer.... still running ZM ...any reason other than Flash leak why ZM is sub par. My main interest is having a second layer of encryption / tunnel for financial traffic. The gov't will find a way to spy on me w / wo a VPN. Thanks looking at vpngate So, OpenVPN or SoftetherVPN ?
Both work. Softether with the VPNgate plugin from the Vpngate website is easier to use with VPNgate. OpenVPN is a little more difficult but not by much. OpenVPN can be used with almost any VPN service like the Cyberghost giveaways that happened recently.
Been running ZM on FF. No slow down. Speed up, if anything. Found if I block plug-in container. No Flash leak. Can't find fault with ZM freeware. We'll see what Premium brings.
