Hello do you know if a new version or patch will be avalaible to fix this problem. It was said that 5.0.95 should solve it but it is not the case. Just to recall the problem :eek:n Xp machine Nod 32 block the system when you try to connect an USB drive

I'm not sure what the incentive would be to fix the issue. XP is a dead end OS. New computers don't have it installed and no one would think of putting it on a new system where the hardware might need drivers which are not available for XP. Once the old computers on which XP is installed finally die, support won't be needed.

    Hello,

Microsoft Windows XP is still quite popular, and ESET has many customers running older versions of Microsoft Windows. The issue remains under investigation by ESET.

    Hi,

the problem may be even worse!
Had the same problem with 5.0.94, but decided to let it go for a while because I rarely use my USB-drive. It still worked on my notebook anyway. During the holidays I installed a 240GB SSD on a SATA III port in order to make a dual-boot system with Win7 on the SSD and XP on the old drive.
After booting into XP I experienced the same freeze, no USB-drive attached!. Had to disconnect the SSD before I could remove 5.0.94. Installed 5.0.95 and had the system running for about a week without freezes. After that the same problem with the USB-drive, but so far no problems with the SSD.
    Should I revert to 4.2.71.2 ?

hope this info helps you guys at Eset.

    regards,
    Kees

    Hello,

I would recommend using ESET NOD32 Antivirus v4.2 on the Microsoft Windows XP installation if you are going to be connected USB external drives to it.

Does this mean there are no near-future plans to fix v5?

    Hello,

The issue is being worked on. Some issues are more complex and require a greater deal of development and testing to validate that the solution is correct.

    Hello,

As long as the system is working okay without any freezes I don't see any reason to downgrade from v5.0.95 to v4.2.71.

    Hi Aryeh,

thanks for your answers. Maybe I was not all that clear in my questions. What I meant to say was, that with v5.0.95 I still had freezes with a USB-drive, but not with the SSD anymore. That's why I downgraded to v4.2.71. Anyway, all's working now, so I'm happy to wait for a final solution.

    regards,
    Kees

Hey guys. I was having the same problem that you guys are describing here. Neither my flash drive nor usb hard drive would work and causing my computer to freeze (xp). I was however using the previous version Nod32 antivirus. I just wanted to report that I uninstalled it. Rebooted my computer and installed version 5.0.95 and both the flash drive and hard drive are working. Not to suggest that this would work for you or that you had not tried already or that I might not be back in a few days with issues. But I just wanted to pass along the info in case it might assist someone else.

Wow, I am glad I happened to visit the forum today to research a different issue and found this and other threads related to the USB issue. I am running 5.0.94.0 on WinXP, SP3 and have been experiencing hard lockups when connecting a Galaxy Player 5 (small Android tablet) via USB. It always requires a hard reset to get the PC back. I thought it was a USB driver issue because sometimes it would report the device as unknown, but then sometimes it would connect okay, and then sometimes it would lock the system. I am also running an external hard drive in USB, but that stays connected all the time so I haven't had lockup issues with it.

I plan to stay on WinXP for at least two more years on my desktop, a laptop and a netbook. Everything else runs fine so there is no real reason for me to upgrade until Microsoft security support stops in 2014.

Is the consensus that I should revert to NOD32AV 4.2.7.12 until a future 5.x release is reported by users as solving the problem?

Well, I had my external usb drive connected all the time and now it's broken. 90 per cent of the blocks were damaged when I checked it with Portable HD Tune. It has become completely inaccessible by now. I can't be 100 per cent certain that it was caused by NOD32, but the problems started around the time when I upgraded to the latest version. I went back to the last version. Don't want the same thing to happen to my new disk.

    Hello,

Has anyone who is experiencing this problem performed a clean installation of the beta version of ESET Endpoint Security 5 (formerly ESET NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition) from http://www.eset.com/us/beta/endpoint/?

If so, did this make any difference for you?

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

Though I do not know of a scenario where an antivirus program, or any program for that matter, could actually damage disk sectors, it is interesting that I recently experienced a failure of my external USB hard drive only two months after installing it with NOD32 5 installed. It was inaccessible and would only click repeatedly, even when tested on my laptop.

    Hi all.

this thread seems to be quiet for some time now. There is a new version available; v5.2.9.1. It is not clear to me if this one solves the problem.
    Anyone?

5.2.9.1 sees so far to have solved the problem for me and most users. Most of the discussion, including on 5.2.9.1, has gone into this long thread

There are too many threads on this issue. I wonder if there is any way the mods can merge them.
