Any news about NOD32 2.7?

Has it entered beta testing yet?

Are there any new features apart from Vista compatibility?

 

No public Beta available yet, and no news as to what features have been added/changed/upgraded.

Eset will annouce it here when they do so.

The following paragraph is a response directly from Eset regarding the release of aVista Compatible NOD32:

"Microsoft are now hard-coding Vista to prevent installation of antivirus software which has not been fully tested with them. The latest situation with NOD v2.7 is that it’s currently undergoing this testing and is scheduled for release at the same time as the R.T.M. (release-to-manufacturing) version of Vista. This is currently early November, but of course could change slightly depending on when Vista RTM is released."

Seems like a fair answer and is more than I've seen on the forum so far but if this a duplication then I apologise.

 

That explains the situation well.

I actually want to install it on XP Pro, but if it offers no new features apart from Vista compatibility, then I am not really bothered because 2.5 is working well for me.

I will be interested in checking out the firewall in NOD v3 when it is released.

I currently use Outpost, which works well, but is becoming a bit of a CPU hog at times and tends to slow the boot process.

If Eset have coded the firewall as efficiently as the current antivirus program, then this should be a real improvement, as NOD32 is very low on CPU resources.

I would assume so unfortunately.

 

that's bad.... but maybe they will release ver. 3.0 before 2.7 .

 

When I last spoke to ESET, they said the developers "run" the company in a way, not the sales/marketing departments. The developers will not under any circumstances release the product until it's finished, which is nice to hear as it sounds like they're trying to make ESS 3.0 as reliable as possible.

Really looking forward to the final release.

Marcos/Blackspear: Now that the word is official and Vista has been released to manufacturing, can we expect to see NOD32 2.7 Beta/Final released soon?

Nod32 2.7 should be be released in November if there is everything allright... They want to do it more reliable, stable and efficient, so for me, it is good if it is released a month later

2.7 will include:
enhanced anti-stealth functionality (detect & remove rootkits), espeically cleaning infected machines,
Vista support,
and
refinement of the greyware categories

Well I can`t wait for its release!

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the deal with v2.7 and v3?

I just don't see the point of developing 2.7 AND 3 at the same time?? Especially as v3's release date is mooted to be in the very near future.

Fair enough if there was an extra charge for version updates, as there'd be a point of making two new changes.

Seeing as the version upgrades are free though, why spend (waste?) time developing v2.7 and v3 contemporaneously?? Why not just release the one version update (v3) and have the changes that would have been included in v2.7 into one big complete v3?

Does anyone follow my reasoning here, or am I just an ignoramus? LOL

The only reason I think they would have 2.7 is that they don't think they can finish 3.0 in time for Vista. Which looks like it is the case.

 

Ah, now that makes sense. I'm not a tech head like I used to be, I don't keep abreast with these things so strongly any more. Last I heard from ESET, v3 was due out in summer just gone, then November/December with Vista.

So v2.7 is just a kind of emergency patch for Vista compatibility, before the "real" update (v3) is rolled out?

No; as far as I have understood it, there will be a Security Suite v3 and an AV stand-alone v3. The v3 av stand-alone will be a free upgrade to current licence holders (as per usual), whereas the Suite will be an optional paid extra.

What is the refinement of the greyware categories?

This means, that NOD32 will treat adware and spyware separatly, so these 2 are not the same stuff for NOD32 anymore... Here we can expect more reliable scanning and offcourse more efficient support for detecting malware...

About 3.0....

I hope it will be released with huge delay, because this means, that it will work more stable and reliable...

Just give them the time, belive me, you wont be dissapointed (at least I wasn`t)
