    Hi,

I'd like to report an issue. WSA is not compatible with latest .07 beta of Sandboxie. This is due to the Identity Shield. You have to 'Allow' browsers in order for Sandboxie to start the applications properly. If you have them set to 'Protected' Sandboxie will start giving error messages and not start the browsers.

I will report this to official support, of course. But I thought I'd share my findings with the Wilders.

Here's a link to the thread I made at Sandboxie.com with the error messages I get with browsers set as 'Protected'.

    This was already discussed here:
WSA can't protect a browser using Sandboxie?

I disagree. WSA worked fine with Sandboxie to beta version 4.01.06. But as .07 was released Sandboxie'd browsers does not work at all. They won't even _start_ (which they could up to version .06).

That being said, things are getting worse. Win 7 SP1 x64 was patched which broke Sandboxie 3.7x. Tzuk is now advising all these users to use beta version .07, which does no longer work together with WSA.

You can disagree but Sandboxie is breaking compatibility with WSA not the reverse. And they could do this to each new beta (its a beta). This is why PrevxHelp suggested to have a look into it only when they are near to a more mature version (i.e. near to the final one).

Testing and QA takes time and you can understand that WSA development cannot baby sitting Sandboxie to each new beta release. They need to look into it when they are sure Sandboxie is stable enough otherwise is a waste of time and development costs.

Probably it would be useful to know directly from Tzuk when a final release will be out (or near to), instead of complaining here. :)

I was merely creating the thread for information purposes and making Webroot aware that latest beta of Sandboxie is completely broken when used with WSA. And as the author of Sandboxie is _recommending_ the users to switch to the Beta, Webroot will probably get quite a few users requesting support. :)

Exactly - however, I will take a look to see if there are any easy workarounds which we can add to cover this release, although we generally don't try to support each beta while changes are going on.

    Thanks for the head's up!

That's the trouble with betas; with one build programs may work fine, but the next build, something breaks. It might be fixed in the build afterwards, but only to break again a build or three later.

If Tzuk is advising Windows 7 SP1 users to switch to the beta build because the 3.7x line no longer works, maybe he should consider releasing 4.x as a final release with beta builds continuing behind the scenes.

Great! Good to see you guys responding in a creative way. Merely providing information, that's all. :)

And the bright side is, Sandboxie 4 is getting closer to a final release so this may not be an issue we'll live with very long.

    Just to add the source of Tzuks' advice;

I'll stop going off topic now. :)

FYI - I've fixed the incompatibility (the Identity Shield was blocking some of Sandboxie as an information stealing trojan :)) so the next build of WSA should work with Sandboxie moving forward.

Always the best customer support. That's one of the big reasons I use it on my laptop.

I imagine we'll have the build finalized within the next few days, but I can post here when it's released, if you'd like to subscribe to the thread to be notified.
