"It's coming". That's anybody's guess what that exactly means...
"Security by obscurity" has never worked. Maybe Mozilla has to learn that lesson again...
Well, we will see whether they have the courage to tell out in the open what is happening ..........

FWIW, it might be interesting to note that Ikey Doherty, one of the Thunderbird engineers, wrote a post in which he introduced Rust support in Thunderbird. Some weeks ago he already wrote on X:

This is certainly very welcome news which will improve code quality in Thunderbird and strengthen its security.

    Hi @summerheat ,

Not everyone seems to agree about whether it is a good decision.
There is a recent discussion about it on Dutch site security.nl but it is in Dutch:
https://www.security.nl/posting/827975/Thunderbird krijgt ingebouwde support voor Exchange-protocol

I guess, if you want, you have to use some translation; I'm sorry.
For now I only wanted to say that not everyone agrees; that's all.

Well, I'm not a programmer nor a Rust expert. But if Mozilla has been using Rust in Firefox for a long time, Microsoft is increasingly using Rust in Windows and Google is increasingly using Rust in Android (and possibly also in Chrome) in order to avoid memory-related bugs which account for about three-fourths of all vulnerabilities ... then I guess that Rust and its ecosystem can't be that bad, after all. And there are possibilities to vet and audit crates. I think that such big projects will not blindly use random crates.

    EDIT: Newest confirmation.

    Exactly.
As a analogy you can take CNCF ecosystem of cloud native development. There is a lot of importing of open-source software. Even multi-billion companies developing proprietary software have embraced that, with of course rigorous selection process to meet contractual agreement and other quality obligations. Justifications to use only in-house developed code have not stand rhe test of time.

    Thanks JR.

May I raise attention to this:
Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory 2024-11 - Security Vulnerabilities fixed in Thunderbird 115.8.1
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/advisories/mfsa2024-11/

Did someone here already use that repair folder functionality?

Jan, I have (folder right click > Properties > Repair Folder). On larger folders, content disappears for a few seconds, then reappear. Otherwise, I don't notice any difference.

    Thanks JR :thumb:
I see it, and have done it.
What they didn't say is whether it works also for sub-sub folders etc.
    Example: I have folder A with sub-folders A1, A2, etc.
That is not clear to me whether it works in that case too. Of course you can do it for every sub-sub folder.

Jan, and I suggest that you do them also, just in case. ;) :D

Yeah, already done some. That's a time consuming thing.
Sorry, nothing to make jokes about. It is a serious issue. There is a reason that the whole thing got high priority.
