stupidly i replaced my TrueCrypt program version 7.1a by other TrueCrypt(same version) and suddenly i lost way to access my encrypted partition because by what it looks like Boot Sector got damaged somehow,i managed to restore Volume header this way i can mount but now the problem is im unable to access the mounted volume via explorer because it's not detected as NTFS,its detected as RAW,i googled a bit,and there is an aplication called 'testdisk',ive tried it but it seems im unable to fix Boot Sector assuming this is the problem, i cant format the partitions cuz ill lose the data on it,so how can i be able to restore/fix/repair the partition/volume and read it as NTFS on explorer? i've seen some ppl tolding to try fixboot or bootrec,im not sure what should be done. ps.the partition/volume is not the booting system one.
Assuming your english wording is accurate the following will be too: You wrote you have a TC encrypted partition that is NOT the "booting one" (your words). Win Ex will never see that partition as NTFS because the encryption will render no filesystem visable to Windows. You need to open the TC control panel and select DEVICE where you will then select the partition for mounting. Once you mount it using TC you will get a new drive letter and then Win Ex will be able to open it under that new drive letter.
hey,i already mount the device/volume,i get a new drive letter but im still unable to open it under win explorer cuz by what it seems it's not NTFS anymore..
when trying to open the partition with windows explorer it says: "Location is not available X:\ is not accessible The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted."
hey,ive tried to use m3 data recovery to fix Boot Sector or try to recover the files but it seems it does not detect the partition/volume im looking for (which is O:\ drive),i leave a screenshot http://i.imgur.com/MB7dvw5.jpg can any1 help? thx
hey i've seen that many ppl get answers here and most of times is solved with winhex, i manage to make an image of the partition and when opening it on winhex i get the msg "Warning: Unsupported FILE record size! Cannot read from Drive D:. Sector 3.813.257.491 does not exist. Messages of this kind will not be displayed here again for the remainder of this session. Warning: Unsupported FILE record size! Cannot read from Drive O:. Sector 3.063.361.851 does not exist. Messages of this kind will not be displayed here again for the remainder of this session." can anyone help me?
when opening the image with imdisk on winhex i get this msg: "Warning: Unsupported FILE record size! Cannot read from Drive F:. Sector 5.535.702.661.479.369 does not exist. Messages of this kind will not be displayed here again for the remainder of this session. Drive F: Cannot open "$MFT". Unexpected data at offset 2755626D70779200 and offset 2D177A8F2E00, Res=1, Res2=1" can anyone help to fix this?
I always use encrypted container files rather than encrypted partitions, so I'm no expert here, but as has been said, the OS doesn't recognise the partition as it's a TC encrypted item and not a recognisable format. ie BAD news. But,this may help: http://www.ghacks.net/2014/09/25/use-testcrypt-to-recover-corrupt-truecrypt-partitions/
